This week we’ve been learning about symmetry. We’ve been very creative in our exploration of this topic. We’ve made snowflakes from kinder circles and completed a symmetrical portrait of Mr Holloway.
Only half the portraits are to complete, so there will be more photos added to this post as they are completed.
We hope you enjoy!
These are some of the snowflakes we made. You can spot them in our window.
Below are part of the portraits of Mr Holloway.
This week in maths we have been learning about 3D shapes. We have learnt about the difference between faces, edges and corners and particularly enjoyed working out how prisms and pyramids are different.
Prisms have two of the same shaped face placed parallel to one another and they are connected by rectangles. Pyramids have a base shape which has triangles coming up from it’s edges to form an apex (corner where the triangular faces meet).
We had fun making pyramids with our bodies. Below is a square-based pyramid and a hexagonal-based pyramid. It was pretty hard to form an apex if our triangular edges were on the outside of the base because we are only in Grade 3 so our arms aren’t that long!
3AM has started Rocket Writing this term. For those of you who don’t know, Rocket Writing is where Miss M gives 3AM a setting and they begin to write. She then adds a random word every minute or so and we have to include that word in our next sentence. Rocket writing is so fun because we get to write lots of silly stories. Some words we have used are: ear lobe, octopus and jiggly legs. See if you can come up with a short story using the words ice-cream, upstairs, glue and armpit in the comments below.
Today our lovely mums, grandmas and even some sisters came in to spend the afternoon reading with us. We had a great time and hope our guests did too!
Here are some pictures our paparazzo students took:
So much fun with our lovely mums!
We also spent some time this week dabbling in the arts and crafts. We’ll show you what we got up to next week so as not to ruin the surprise!
This week we learnt about area using Geoboards. Braiden had the genius idea of putting our 8 boards together and working on one huge one! It was so much fun.
Miss Doyle came all the way down from Grade 5 to have a peek at how clever we are. Thanks for making the trip, Miss Doyle. We loved sharing our work with you!
3AM had their first kitchen experience for 2015 this week. We made some delicious damper and enjoyed getting our hands dirty!
Here, the groups are getting started rubbing butter into flour to begin the dough.
Watching the professional demonstrate how to knead our dough (fold, push, slide! 5 times only!)
Kneading was lots of fun!
Somehow someone snuck into the kitchen and struck Jai and Bailey..
Can you guess who it was?
The Flour Monster!
While our delicious damper was cooking, we cleaned down our benches.
Unfortunately, our damper was just SO tasty that we forgot all about taking photos of it. We all agreed that it was delicious and many of us can’t wait to have a go at making some at home!
We’re really looking forward to our next cooking adventure.
We are enjoying resting our brains with Zumba and yoga.
